Reverse Osmosis Desalination

Reverse Osmosis Desalination is considered to be the most economical and efficient means of attaining fresh potable water, particularly in countries and places that lack natural freshwater sources. RO Desalination is today, the most common method of freshwater production in the Maldives.

Static Company started building Desalination Plants in 1997, under our own registered brand name of Aqua Reef, with engineering consultancy and training from leading European firms in water treatment. The Plants are built to international standards and the product water quality exceeds the WHO guidelines for safe drinking water. In a relatively short period of time, Aqua Reef has become the market leader in the Maldives.

Static has been involved in the installation and service of RO Plants, since its introduction to the Maldives. The expertise and know-how gathered from years of experience has been put in the design and engineering of the Aqua Reef Reverse Osmosis Desalination Plants. The plants are built with individual equipment that have proven to withstand our harsh environmental conditions best, giving user friendly operation and a minimum of maintenance service. All Aqua Reef plants carry a limited warranty of one year and installation & commissioning at site are provided free of charge.

The Aqua Reef plants come in three standard categories. Compact Marine Units designed for limited space availability on cruising vessels; Commercial Units for resorts and rural islands; and Twin Pass Units for places which require specifically high product water quality. Control systems come in semi-automatic and fully automatic operation. High technology such as Energy Recovery and Remote Data Logging are available as options.

With its first export in 2000, Static is expanding the market of Aqua Reef plants with the vision of making it a global brand.

Sewage & Waste Water Treatment Plants

The Aqua Reef Waste Water Treatment Plants are for the purification of civil waste water on resort hotels and communities, for re-use. Static has done an in depth research together with our associates T&D Water Technologies & Development of Italy, to verify the requirements and to find the most suitable solution for the environmental conditions of the Maldives.

Tourism being the major market, an important factor that needs to be considered in the selection of the process for the treatment of waste water is that the volume of waste water generated varies immensely at various periods of the year depending on the occupancy. Most of the common treatment processes are unable to handle major variations in load. Another important factor is the salty environment, as biological processes does not function properly in open air systems.

In view of the findings, Static & T&D has introduced the Sequencing Batch Reactor process, commonly known as the SBR. The SBR is a fill-and-draw, activated sludge process in which the reactor basin is filled with waste water during a set time period and then operated in a batch treatment mode. The SBR accomplishes equalization, aeration and clarification in a timed sequence, in a single reactor basin, whereas a conventional continuous flow process requires multiple structures. A single cycle for each reactor consists of five periods. Fill, React, Settle, Draw and Idle. Varying the operating strategy enables aerobic, anaerobic or anoxic conditions to be achieved. Precise control of these conditions allows organism selection to take place - the proliferation of specified desirable micro-organisms is encouraged, the growth of undesirable micro-organisms is inhibited.

The key elements in a SBR System are the submersible pumps, effluent collection/dischage manifolds, the van-cant aeration system, the flow control piping system and the microprocessor or control system.
